We left the Skagit River and climbed all day. Instead of creeks and wildflowers of the past two days, we were treated to a plethora of waterfalls. Each was grander than the last. At the top we were startled to see blue glaciers.
We started up the pass before it was officialy open. The report said it was scheduled to open at 3:00 PM today. We figured we would be at the top by the time it was opened. Well, we surprised ourselves by arriving at the top by 1:30 PM. We are better than we think. Of course the rain and sleet kept us moving. But, the treat was that we had the entire road to ourselves all day, not one car could get through.
When we arrived at the gate there was a line of RVs waiting to drive through the pass. I was hoping while they were sitting there they would think of making hot coffee. We were so cold. But, we did look pretty scruffy when we came down.
We are hosted tonight in Winthrop by Tom and Carolyn Sullivan and their son John. They didn't even bat an eye when we showed up looking or at least feeling like drowned rats.

Hey My Sister, Boy are you tough -- I accidentally typed touch (as in touched) and thought it was a typo, but maybe instead it was a Freudian slip.
Anyway, Congratulations!!! Yea, yea, yea!!! You guys MADE it!!! I'm sure I would have been whining and complaining the whole time. Anyway, is that one down and one to go? The most enjoyable thing I could get out of what you did was riding all that time without having to see one car!
Love,
Hilary
So how come we don't get treated to any photos of you guys after climbing 6,000 feet in only 43 miles???? Huh? After all, you do have the lipstick for touch-ups. Was that straight up or what? But you sure get treated to that gorgeous scenery, don't you? Thanks again for having the stamina to post the blog after a totally exhausting day.
Have you gotten a chance to read the comments, btw? I ask because you haven't responded to any of them. Not that I expect that, it's enough that you post the blog in the first place. But since you have to approve of the comments, do you get to at least read them? If not, maybe I should just email you instead to communicate.
You guys don't even look tired, much less worn out. Good work! Or maybe it's just the lipstick.
