Stanley, ND to Minot, ND 57 Miles June 13

We are coming to you from Minot (MY-nut) North Dakota. We had a fast ride into town today because of favorable tail winds. Maybe Friday 13th is our lucky day. We stopped at a Cenex gas station for a rest stop on the road. I was amazed at what a person could buy. Everything from a cup of coffee to a leather motorcycle jacket was available. But, the most prevalent item seemed to be solid concrete painted statues, made in North Dakota. There were chickens, firemen even motorcycle chicks. Well, we weren't going to carry one home, but Eagle Eye Pam got a picture.

We arrived in Minot in time to hit the bike shop. This shop is not the only game in town, it is the only game in the state. Carol and I got some much needed work done on our bicycles. We explored old downtown Minot and enjoyed lunch, exploring an antique shop and an espresso shop while our bikes were occupied.

While we were occupied at the bike shop, Pam met Pastor Rick Fossum of the United Methodist Church. He took Pam home for lunch and she got her laundry done. She also met Sally Verstraete, the church secretary who took her into town to get some new pants. Sally also brought us food for tomorrow's breakfast. Pam must be a good talker, or does she just look hungry?

We have fallen into a routine with our daily riding. We have come to the conclusion that our lives are becoming like "Groundhog Day", the movie. We wake up in the dark, get dressed in the same clothes, eat, hit the road, eat, arrive in a new town, eat, get organized to do it again tomorrow.

No. 1: So how lucky were you guys that the ONLY bike shop in the state was on your bike route! Yeah, that Divine Force for Good in the Universe strikes again.

And No. 2: In Ground Hog Day, the movie, Bill Murray had to learn lessons so he could grow out of the rut he was in, like reincarnation. Are you guys learning your lessons, or are you destined to stay in this rut forever and ever, unto eternity? But you are forgetting: In each town there are such interesting people and sights -- and foods? -- that makes up the variety, right?
When I told Nancy I had talked to you a couple times, she asked me how you sounded. When I told her you sounded good and that you never sounded tired or worn out and that you were always positive and in a good mood, boy was she impressed -- just about as impressed as I am.

Somehow I guess you knew we needed help pronouncing Minot. Thanks for enlightening me, because I thought it was French and was pronouncing it mee-NO.
